Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage incorporates a variety of advanced modalities that enhance the body’s natural restorative function. Light to firm touch is used to release tension, relax muscles, increase blood and lymph circulation, and impart a sense of calm. Therapeutic massage can be used as a collaborative, supportive addition to conventional medical treatment of illness and injury, alleviating pain and stress, aiding soft tissue healing, and revitalizing the body.  Also, regular massage can enhance health, provide relaxation, release muscle tightness, relieve anxiety, and balance aspects of mind/body/spirit.

Hot Stone Massage Therapy

The earliest use of hot stones to improve health and relaxation took place in India. The practice began among the Hindus approximately 5,000 years ago, and was called Ayurveda. This involved the placement of stones on the body to relax tense muscles and relieve muscle pain. Hot stone massage is a deeply relaxing, therapeutic technique that expands the blood vessels, encouraging blood flow throughout the body.

Some of the many benefits of hot stone massage include the following:

  • Helps relieve muscle tension and pain.
  • Reduces stress and anxiety.
  • Promotes a better night of sleep.
  • May help relieve symptoms of autoimmune diseases.
  • May help decrease cancer symptoms.
  • May boost immunity.
  • May help to relieve fibromyalgia.

Himalayan Salt Stone Massage

Himalayan stones, remnants of the ancient primal sea beneath the towering peaks of the Himalayan Mountains in the Punjab region of Pakistan, have been used for their renowned healing properties in eastern medicine traditions for centuries.   Himalayan salt naturally contains 84 essential minerals including iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium.

Some of the many benefits of Himalayan salt stone massage include:

  • The promotion of healthy blood sugar, lowered blood pressure, and improved circulation.
  • Helps to support a robust respiratory system
  • Helps to prevent muscle cramps
  • Promotes bone health
  • Relieves anxiety and insomnia.
  • Counteracts artificial wavelengths emitted by electronics, restoring balance, healing and resetting the body’s electromagnetic field. Constant exposure to electromagnetic radiation (exposure from cellphones and computers) is known to cause fatigue, stress and weaken the immune system.
  • Detoxifies the body.
  • Re-mineralizes and gently exfoliates the skin
  • Antimicrobial and antibacterial, which works to neutralize any bacteria that may cause future skin breakouts or rashes

Cold Stone Massage

This technique may not sound appealing to most, but it is actually a quite effective, therapeutic experience. When coupled with hot stone massage the combination increases circulation more effectively than using only one therapy, as together they create a pumping action, which encourages healing. The pumping action helps in the removal of the metabolic waste, often referred to as “toxins” that accumulate in the body.

Some of the many benefits of cold stone massage include:

  • encourages circulation
  • reduces swelling/inflammation
  • decreases soreness
  • pulls heat from the body
  • reduces sinusitis discomfort
  • helps decrease high blood pressure
  • eases discomfort associated with hot flashes
  • relaxes muscle spasms
  • decreases menstrual pain
  • restores energy levels
  • helps relieve migraine discomfort
  • helps relieve sciatica
  • helps relieve carpel tunnel

Reiki Energy Therapy

Reiki is one of the most common forms of vibrational (or energy) medicine.  Vibrational medicine has been practiced throughout the world for thousands of years.  While massage therapy focuses on the physical body, Reiki focuses on the subtle body (the energy system of the physical body).  Reiki therapy strives to aid in healing the illness using these subtle energy fields.  Reiki therapy is based on the biofield, or a type of energy field that “regulates everything from our cellular function to our nervous system.”

About Vibrational Medicine

We have heard the phrase ”mind/body/spirit”.  This acknowledges the reality that we are so much more than just skin and bone.  In fact, we are multidimensional beings.  Although we all do not question that we are made up of matter (body) and the physical reality of our existence, vibrational medicine recognizes other levels of reality.  Western physics does not disagree, as Einstein stated that “all matter is energy” when he discovered that E = MC2 (energy equals mass times the square of the speed of light). Plato alludes to this same extension of energy beyond matter in his “theory of forms.” Most people have heard of the practice of Tai Chi, or Qi gong, which are ancient forms of Chinese exercise meant to stimulate proper energy flow and rejuvenate the body.  Although we generally only focus on the 7 main chakra centers within our bodies, in reality we have over 350 chakras, or energy centers, within us. Sometimes the energy pattern (meridians) within our bodies become blocked at various points.  These blocked areas of energy are generally associated with discomfort, disease and illness.  Reiki and therapeutic massage are the natural complement to modern chiropractic medicine to align the physical and energy body and allow us to naturally thrive.
